So I arrived here in Hong Kong at about 11 in has been an
interesting trip so far. I can say that I wont mind moving around tomorrow
because being in a plane sitting for almost 26 hours makes you really want to
move your legs around. After we reached the airport we exchanged some of our
American dollars for Hong Kong dollars its about 7 Hong kong dollars to every 1
american dollar.
After
that we sat around waiting for the whole group to arrive. In all there were
about 18 of us. Then a Chinese man
named Red came and took us through the airport to our Bus. It took a long time
to get all of the luggage into the compartments under the bus and we even had
to put some suitcases in seats at the front because we ran out of room
underneath in the storage compartments. It was about 12:05 when we finally left
the airport and headed toward the
Hotel. It was interesting to look around and see all the Chinese
characters on signs and billboards. We finally got to the Hotel and moved all
our stuff up. I am sharing a room with Diana it is a small room and we
immediately ran into some snags.
We
couldn’t figure out how to turn on the lights. We sat and pushed the buttons
found all over the room but nothing worked. Then I noticed that there was a
slot for a room key so I slid one in and out of the slot and the lights turned
on. They stayed on for about 30 seconds and then turned back off. Confused,
Diane and I tried punching buttons and flipping switched again to no avail.
Then Diane had the bright Idea to leave the key in the slot. It worked and the
lights have not gone out on us yet.
We
both took showers and are now getting ready to sleep. We have to get up in 5
hours to go on our tour of Hong Kong. I have a feeling tomorrow afternoon with
consist of a very long nap for the both of us. Well goodnight family and
friends. I will write more when I find another place with internet connection.

Today
was exciting we woke up at 7am got up, got dressed, then went down the street
to the nearest 7 eleven to get breakfast.
After that we started our tour. We took a bus up to Victoria Peak and
saw an amazing view of Hong Kong then we walked around and looked at the shops.
After that we went to the fishing village on the south side of Hong Kong. There
we saw what a traditional fishing village looks like and saw the famous
floating restaurant. An interesting fact is that Jackie Chan owns a yacht that
is in that harbor. We took a boat ride around the harbor and then we headed out
once again.
The
last stop on our tour was Stanley Market. Here was where I got to experience
bartering for the first time. I wasn’t very good. I hope I will get better. I
quickly learned upon arriving that I need a watch. Bad. So I took this
opportunity to look around for one. I ended up getting a pretty good one for 15
US dollars. I think I could have gotten it cheaper. Then Diane and I got bookmarks
with our names in Chinese and the meanings written on it. After that I walked
into a jewelry store and saw a jade necklace that I liked. The shop girl wanted
me to pay 350 for it. I kept trying to walk away saying I didn’t want to spend
that much she would grab my arm and pull me back before I got even a foot away.
So I told her the most I would pay was 100 she went down to 150 then 120 then I
still tried to walk away, so she gave it to me for 100.
After
the market we were brought back to the street where our hotel was and we went
to lunch at a little noodle shop that was near by. The food was good! I don’t
think I’m going to lose any weight here in fact with my luck I will gain it.
Can’t do that or I won’t fit in my wedding dress anymore.
After
lunch we came back to the hotel and went and changed into skirts so we could
head up to the Hong Kong Temple. It was interesting to take the subway. I have
never been on one before. It cost 6 HK$ to get there then we walked 2 blocks
and found the temple. Sadly it was closed so we took pictures outside and then
came back to the hotel.
Tonight
we will be going to a laser light show on the dock then we are getting Hot Pot
for dinner and going over to the night market. Can’t wait to see what that is
like.
